Getting new customers can be a challenge. You can spend a lot of time and money buying ads, paying for radio play, and doing cross promotions with other business to get new customers. Depending on your business, finding new customers can be a little tricky. One business may do great with their social media marketing campaigns, whereas another business who sells insurance to seniors may not do well with social media. So the way you get new customers really depends on the type of business you have. Keeping your business in mind, cold calls may be best for you business or promoting ads on radio/podcast may work better for you. It really all depends. What I want to go into today is basically share some tips every business owner can use regardless of the type of business you own. These tips can be seen as basic or daunting, but many successful businesses use one or more of these forms to advertise.
Tip 1- Flyers and Ads
This is very obvious and very universal to most traditional business plans. But before you send out flyers and ads you may want to find out where your audience hangs out or their interests so you can begin to connect with them through those interest points. Realtors can go anywhere and find potential clients because you can always find someone looking to buy or sell their home. Someone with a speciality local boutique cupcake store will have to go to local events and functions to promote their business. Of course there are other ways, but the main point is to go where there’s an audience and promote your business with your choice of flyers or ads. These ads can be magazine, flyers, billboards and etc.
Tip 2 – Use Social Media
We all know you can connect with new customers like never before with social media. Social media lets people in on your business and what you business is up too. The more you expose people to your business and what you do, the more people via social media with feel connected to you and your business. I am not going to get into which social media platforms to use, but using them in today’s economy is must. Younger business owners are more open to using social media; however more and more older traditional business owners have moved to using social media. Depending on the size of your business and type of business you can do this on your own or hire someone to do this for you. It all depends on the nature and size of your business, as well as consideration of the budget.
Tip 3- Is a combination of the first and second one
Utilizing technology and social media in the form of Facebook ads to advertise. This one could fall up under social media, but I feel facebook ads can be seen an entity of its own. In my opinion Facebook’s ads are one of the best ways for small business owners to obtain new potential customers. The reasons why is because there is no other place where you can market to your target audience like Facebook. There are millions of people on facebook and ads can be targeted to their age, race, geographic location and so on. You really can’t beat it. Ads are available on Google, but it can be expensive. The cool thing about Facebook ads is that you can market to your target audience at a very low price. You know before the traditional way to market to your audience was billboards, magazine ads, radio, tv and etc. Today Facebook and Google helps narrow your target audience because they have all the info your target market. They know their age, their likes and dislikes. It’s kind of scary, but for a business owner whether small or large, it’s a gold mine. Let me explain. If you are a local restaurant and want new customers you can put a facebook ad in front of people in your local area to promote your restaurant. If your restaurant is slow on Mondays and Tuesday, you can give some sort of discount to anyone who comes to the restaurant on those days. Here’s another example, If you are a local barber shop and want to get new customers you can have a promotion for your barbershops. The great thing about it is that you can target your promotion to a specific target audience, by age, race and etc. So you can can get pretty specific advertising for little to no money. When I ran an ad on Facebook for my online painting course, I set my settings for my ad to be directed toward a specific target audience. My course at the time was about $125.00 and set my budget at about 20 dollars. From that campaign, I made a sell. So with a twenty dollar investment I made $115 dollars. I hope this gives you an idea of how easy and profitable these ads can be if done right. I know all businesses are not the same and that each scenario is different, but believe me big companies are doing this and as a small business owner you can too!
My guess is that if you are wanting to gain more customers, you will have to step out of your comfort zone and try some of these tips mentioned. Are there other tips? Of course, I focused on these because I have personally used the ones I mentioned and have had some success. My art business is a small business in comparison to some of the businesses from my readers. With that being said, if I have had some success I know you can as well. Step out, move forward, and begin taking steps to getting new customers and making more money.
