This is by far one of the most important blog posts I could ever write. Why, because this has been the number one way I have been able to make my sales for my painting tutorial business. It’s really a no brainer. If you have a business, no matter what it is, I truly believe you should be collecting emails in some way shape or form.
Among all the things that are screaming for our attention, studies have shown that email is still the number one way small business owners can connect with their audience and potential customers.
In today’s world a lot of businesses make most of their sales through emails and email marketing. As I mentioned before, it’s been the best way I have been able to sell my courses to my audience. I know some of you are reading this and may not have an an online business, but more of a brick and mortar business such as a barber shop or plumbing company.
Well you are still in luck because there are several business who are using email marketing as a way to stay connected to their audience and to promote their products and services.
I am going to mention a few businesses below that are having some major success using email marketing. There are three tips I want to discuss that will drive home the reason why you should be collecting emails for your business. These tips have helped me with my business in the areas of staying connected, building a relationship with potential customers, and most of all making more sales.
Reason 1-To Stay in Contact
Let’s start with what may seem like some captain obvious advice. Email helps you stay in constant contact with your audience. This so so simple, yet it’s so deep. If you are a small business and everyone that encounters your business has an email, you should be collecting their emails to stay in contact with them. What better non-invasive way to do that than to send an email. It’s not cold calling and it’s not a small version of “business panhandling”. It’s simple and discreet it can be opened or deleted anytime your audience wants to respond to it. You really can’t beat it!
A couple of months ago a friend that I haven’t seen in awhile said he was in town and wanted me to come hang out with him in a club in Atlanta. Now I am not a club person ,but I agreed to go because he invited me and I haven’t seen him in a while. When I arrived at the club and stood in line, the gatekeepers at the club did something very interesting. Before you could go inside they took your name and email. This seemed a little weird at first. Surely all these people are not going to just give up their email before they enter the club. As I got closer to the door,I noticed everyone was handing over their email. I thought this was very interesting. What better way to stay connected and keep the audience abreast on upcoming events. There are a large number of people in line and if they do this every night they open, they are collecting an enormous amount of emails in their database. I have to give them props on this strategy. Guess what? I get emails to this day about their venue and upcoming events. I’m not going back to the club so I could delete their emails, but I’m not just yet because I am interested in seeing how they use email to continue to market their business.
Now let’s take that look at this with your business. Imagine you had everyone’s email that came into your door or on your website. Imaging how much of an impact you could have on your audience. You can give to them updates about promotions, tell them personal things going on with you and your business or let them know when your next product will launch.
It’s all about staying in contact with them and emails are a great way. Since the internet, snail mail has dropped and email has been a new way of connecting with people like no other.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still love getting mail the old way, especially when there is a check involve but email remains the best way to stay connected with your customers if you are a business owner.
Build a Relationship
The next reason why you should be collecting emails from your customers and potential customers is to build a relationship with them. I’m not talking about wining and dining them with lunch and dinner. What I am talking about is building a relationship by providing great content along with vulnerability via your emails. Most of the people I follow and receive emails from send good info about the topic that they specialize in. By peaking my interest with content about the particular topic that they are an expert in allows me to feel like I am a part of their world and connected to them in some way, shape, or form.
As I mentioned before, if you provide people with good content or good information, you allow people on your list to trust you and build a certain rapport with you.
Well let’s say you are a realtor, how can you build rapport with the people on an email list if you don’t have anything to say. All you want is someone to buy one of your houses that you have on the market. Glad you ask. Imagine if you gathered a list and started emailing people a list of things to look for when buying a home, the biggest mistake new homeowners make when purchasing a house, who do you think they are going to be connect to the most or trust the most? You!!!! Who do you think they are going to think of when they buy their house? You!!! The realtor that provided value and validated some sort of connection is the the one a potential customer is going to do business with. For my online art business, I provide all sorts of painting tips that range from so many spectrums and what I have noticed is that by me providing those tips and answering those questions many have said that they feel like they know me. As as a business owner this is great. This brings value to me and my business. So when I am trying to promote a new course to my audience it’s not as hard because I have built some sort of relationship with my audience, and you can too. Which leads me into the last point of why you should have collect emails.
To Promote Products and Services
Once you have built a rapport with your audience, given out pertinent information about things within your business, email is a great way to promote and sale new products and services. To be honest, this what we all want isn’t it, to make sales and increase our numbers. Well the best way to do this is by giving away things to your audience (tips, services, coupons etc) and they will in turn give back to you. Because I provided simple painting tips to my audience, when I created my first online painting course I sold a bunch of them. It’s was amazing to honest with you.
Once I did this, I saw how much faith people had in me and my product, but this would have never happened if I didn’t have email as a way to give good info to them that would help them in their journey as an artist.
The cool thing about it is that since my business is online and connected to world wide web, I was getting people to buy my course from all over the world. So, really consider how you can use email to give and provide great information to your audience and how can you use email to promote your products and services. If you are not collecting emails today, than today is a great day to start. It’s one the best marketing strategy to grow your business. Side note, building your email list may take some time, but with a little persistence it will be so beneficial in the long run if used properly.
